Andy Warhol exhibition social AR activation
For the first major Andy Warhol exhibition in Saudi Arabia, AlUla Art Gallery wanted to extend the experience beyond the gallery walls. Playbound created a social AR filter that placed visitors directly inside Warhol’s iconic artwork, turning cultural appreciation into something interactive and shareable.

The challenge
This wasn’t just another exhibition launch. It was a landmark cultural moment. The experience needed to excite a global audience, attract new visitors and remain faithful to Warhol’s bold visual language. It had to feel immersive without overpowering the art. Shareable without feeling gimmicky. And credible enough to honour the legacy of one of the world’s most recognisable artists.
The Solution
Playbound developed a social media AR filter that allowed visitors to step inside four of Warhol’s iconic works. Users could tap to switch between artworks, transforming passive viewing into an interactive moment. On-screen exhibition information blended context with play, creating an experience that felt authentic to Warhol’s graphic, high-contrast style while encouraging organic social sharing. Custom-built shaders ensured colours, textures and visual energy translated accurately into AR, with close collaboration and approval from the Warhol Foundation at every stage.
